The Old Man and the Sea
Ernest Hemingway · read in May
Short enough to finish in an evening, slow enough that it feels longer. Most of the book is waiting. The fish is almost secondary to the old man's habit of talking to himself to stay steady.
"A man can be destroyed but not defeated."
On the second reading I paid more attention to the boy, who is the only one who never doubts him.
